March in Vancouver
March is an interesting time for us at BBVancouver, as we have moderate occupancy, mediocre weather, pretty good skiing while still offering our guests the lowest prices of the year. This is not to discourage anyone from travelling to Vancouver during this month, but only to have realistic expectations when they arrive. Moderate occupancy is really a full house at both properties Friday, Saturday & Sunday, while we expect 50% occupancy mid week. In my humble opinion, our Tank Travellers (those driving within one tank of gas) are getting over their holiday bills, and maybe getting a little restless for a vacation. All work & no play...well...you know.
Speaking of play, the pretty good skiing is actually good for BBVancouver. When there is plenty of snow pack on the mountains, we will loose guests to the world famous Whistler/Blackcomb mountains. When the snow is pretty good, these same guests can book a week with us for a fraction of the cost of Whistler during peak season, and drive up for a day or 2 of pretty good snow and have more money left over for some world class dinning.
Speaking of dining, Vancouver has some amazing restaurants in most every category. Take a look at our interactive /Map page to see a dozen or so suggestions in 1) Fine Dining, 2) Hip Dinning & 3) Cheap Eats. This page gets more hits than our reservations page, which is probably because guests only book once, but dine out (or research restaurants) multiple times during their stay with us. And, well, my friends and family tend to bookmark our /Maps page to keep up with the ever changing restaurant scene that is Vancouver. Pam & I take most of our recommendations from businesses that score well with a multitude of social media like TripAdvisor, Yelp, Zagat, Urban Spoon and even facebook. If there is an up & coming restaurant that catches our attention, we have a Date Night to check it out. To be added to our recommended dinning list, the restaurant must pass muster in every category.
March is also Spring Break month for North America. Although not all Canadian & USA schools are out at the same time, it is a given that every day in March, there will be a school somewhere on Spring Break. While it is true most of our neighbourhood families will leave town during Spring Break for someplace warm (like Hawaii, Palm Springs or Mexico), or someplace cold (like Whistler/Blackcomb or anywhere there is good/fun snow sports), there will always be more families visiting friends & families in Vancouver. Probably because there is more desire for these friends & family to visit Vancouver than the other way around.
During Spring Break (read March), our Hycroft Suites Winter Weekly special is very propular with families. Granville House B&B typically see 4-7 night stays for couples visiting their adult kids & grandchildren that live close by. We have excellent attraction & restaurant suggestions for both couples on a romantic birthday or anniversary at Granville House B&B, as well as the big or small family trying to keep the kids entertained at Hycroft Suites.
Well March is the begginging of Vancouver's busy tourist season, BBVancouver typically runs our Deep Winter Discounts with weekly specials, making March an excellent month to visit Vancouver. So wether you are entertaining kids during Spring Break, or visiting friends & family in Vancouver, or looking for a one-tank getaway for that birthday or anniversay, please consider our adult oriented Granville House B&B or our family friendly Hycroft Suites.
